Youth: The Gold of Ummah

Youth, a young generation, well known with the high potential and willingness. Whom born with curiosity and love in trying something new. Everyone who have gone through the youth phase should experience things that the youth nowadays are facing. Youth are the one who might replace our leaders today. Whom might be the rulers that govern the nation. However, it turns pathetic when we hear, we see and we talk about unhappy things about the youth. Tabloids would come with the headlines on spoiled youth involved with drugs, disobedience, pregnancy out of wedlock, overly-socialized and lots of bad words.

The fact is world nowadays being messed up with greedy people regardless anyone whom by right become aggressive with materials. Wealth, money, beauty, entertainmrnt, gadgets, health and so forth. Those things could drive people uncontrollable and illogical. One could kill because of wealth. One could die because of beauty. One could be a moron due to entertainment. That is the reality of our Ummah nowadays. We, Muslims who did not embrace Islam as we should are among those who might greed upon the materialistic Dunya. Making the Hereafter something impossible when overly attached with Dunya.

We, the young generations should make a move. Be the one who would change the societal paradigm. Get back to the basics and embrace Islam as per ordained by Allah. Allah, The Creator had given us two main responsibilities in life: as a caliph and an ‘abid. A caliph who owns the authority to govern him/herself or even people around him/her. A caliph who governs according to the Islamic shariah revealed through the precious Qur’an and Sunnah.

And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, “Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority (caliph).” They said, “Will You place upon it one who causes corruption therein and sheds blood, while we declare Your praise and sanctify You?” Allah said, “Indeed, I know that which you do not know.”

[Surah Al-Baqarah: Verse 30]

Allah also created us to fully worship Him as an ‘abid. An ‘abid is the one who performs an ‘ibadah as a sign of worshipping. Fully worships means a total submission to Allah. Everything we do in life should be solely because of Allah. Syeikh Muhammad Ahmad Ar-Rasyid, one of the member of Ikhwanul Muslimin, wrote in his book, Al-Munthalaq regarding an ‘abid. He defines an ‘abid as someone who would not only perform fives times daily prayers, not only fasting during Ramadhan, not only perform Hajj; but an ‘abid is the one who put da’wah as priority in life. Who keeps spreading Islam all around and at the same time maintain their dilligent ‘ibadah. Believe me or not, those who fulfill these two responsibilities, could surely go through the challenging life full of tribulations and circumstances.

“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.”

[Surah Ad-Dzariyat: Verse 56]

Dear youth, we are the hopes, the precious golds that can make a change for the Ummah. We are the one who should raise up for a better nation. Never ever we get overly attached with entertainment. Never ever we let ourselves drown with the temporary Dunya. Stop whining, start moving. Stop putting blames on others and do more self-reflections. Be the mover, not a whiner. Be the one who would succeed at Dunya and excellent during the Hereafter. Wise word for all, a good worshipper is the one who could lead the Ummah for an eternal Jannah.
